Dean's Message

Welcome to the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences at the Air University. You are about to embark on an exciting new stage of your life, one that will bring many invaluable learning opportunities with it. The University aims to provide a challenging and supportive environment for its students. The mission is to prepare our students to be the future leaders, and to ensure academic and personal success.

The Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences is as old as the University itself. Department of Computer Sciences, Mathematics and Physics constitute this faculty. Basic Sciences is the backbone of any Engineering program including Electrical & Mechanical Engineering.

The undergraduate program of Computer Sciences was launched initially in2002. In 2010 MS- Mathematical Modelling & Computer Simulation were introduced successfully. In 2013, the Master Degree program of Applied Physics was launched. From fall 2015 we have launched undergraduate programmes in Mathematics and Physics. We have also started postgraduate studies leading to MS in Computer Sciences and PhDs in Mathematics and Physics.

The Faculty has one mission; excellence in teaching, research and innovation, and we excel in all. We aim to take small number of students in lecture sessions, so that the professors get to know their students and engage them in scientific discussions. The target is to have thorough theoretical understanding of the subject and to provide an opportunity for practice. Additional objective of this faculty is strengthening the ties between the Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medical Sciences. Initial experimental laboratories for all the undergraduate programmes are available. The Physics post graduate laboratories are under progress.

Our professors have an excellent background of research in terms of impact factor, number of papers and their citations. Infact, Department of Physics stands at number five among the nationwide universities as reported by PCST 2013.

We expect our graduates to be passionate scientists and engineers who are committed to improving the quality of human life through knowledge and technology. I look forward to working with creative, passionate and curious students. I welcome the opportunity to learn from you. Let us together build on the tradition of academic excellence.

On behalf of the faculty and staff, good luck!

Dr. Rashid Mahmood
